Police say an unexpected and sharp rise in the number of Sydney massage parlours is correlated to a steep reduction in crime.

"The rapidly expanding massage industry is resulting in a more relaxed population," says Constable Henry Lee. "This is a win win for the broader community."

Official data shows a 114% increase in Sydney massage parlours over the last 12 months.

"Sydney life can be stressful," says regular massage consumer Phil McCracken. "It's good to know relief is out there whenever you may need it."

"This is obviously a really healthy outcome for Sydney consumers," says Sydney City Councillor Byron Walsh. "On top of the crime reduction, we're also benefitting from a boost to the local economy."

The industry is presenting generous employment opportunities.

"It's a great job," says masseuse Maddie Palmer. "I enjoy lending a hand to those in need. In the end, everyone is happy."
