Another shock contender for the Liberal leadership has thrown his hat into the ring.

"I believe I might have the numbers," sprinting super star Usain Bolt told Double Bay Today exclusively.

His challenge to Malcolm Turnbull's leadership comes after his first training session with the Central Coast Mariners soccer team yesterday.

"Professional soccer is my first priority," says Bolt. "But it'd be good to have a back up option if I don't get anywhere with the Mariners."

Bolt's surprise challenge for Prime Minister comes in the wake of Peter Dutton's failed attempt.

It's understood Dutton may mount a second challenge.

"I wish both Malcolm and Peter all the very best," says Usain Bolt. "But I really want to find a way to make sure I can stay in Australia."

This is a breaking news story. We'll keep you updated with any developments as they come to hand.
