The NSW Premier has announced she'll be joining the ranks of the police force on New Years Eve.
"Sydney's police officers always do an excellent job maintaining law and order on what is a very high risk night," says Gladys Berejiklian. "I'm excited to be joining them."
The Premier fronted the media today in the bullet proof vest she'll be wearing on the night.
She says she'll be joining officers patrolling the Circular Quay area of the City.
"Our police presence will be bigger than ever this year," she says. "With an estimated 1.6 million people converging around Sydney Harbour's vantage points for the fire works, we can't take any chances."
The Premier will be on duty with a sniffer dog from 6pm till 2am.
"Yes, I'll be helping to enforce the much publicised 10.30pm curfew. Hopefully the last few hours of my shift will be trouble free with everyone already safely home. I've got nothing else to do that night anyway."
