Police have decided against penalising a naked cyclist who was on meth while ignoring a red light near Sydney’s CBD.
“We're under instructions from the Lord Mayor Clover Moore to let cyclists do whatever they want,” says Inspector Dean Lendos. "Any media enquiries need to be directed to her."
CCTV footage obtained by Double Bay Today shows naked cyclist Damien Michaels smoking a meth pipe, then getting on his bike.
Police confirm he began riding erratically in heavy traffic, even on the wrong side of the road, before running a red light at Kings Cross in full view of two officers nearby.
In a written statement to Double Bay Today, Clover Moore said:
“The circumstances of this particular issue are not ideal, but this man must be encouraged for becoming a member of Sydney’s fast-growing cycling community. We also applaud him for wearing a helmet."
